The Brooks RCMP detachment has ended its search for a missing 45-year-old man. Now, a Canada-wide warrant has been issued for the suspect in his death.

On April 28, 2016, a local man discovered human remains on a rural property outside the city of Brooks.

The results of an autopsy conducted by the Medical Examiner’s Officer and an investigation by the RCMP Major Crime Unit confirmed the remains were those of 45-year-old Mohamed Jana Abdi.

Abdi had been reported missing in July of 2015 after failing to return to work following a vacation.

The nature of Abdi's death has not been released but RCMP have deemed it a homicide.

In connection with Abdi’s death, a Canada-wide warrant has been issued for the arrest of 41-year-old Ali Abdullah Awale, a former resident of Brooks.

Awale is believed to have left Brooks by bus on July 16, 2015 and boarded a flight departed from Toronto to Somalia on July 23, 2015.

Anyone with information regarding Awale’s current whereabouts is asked to contact the Brooks RCMP detachment, 403-362-5535, or Crime Stoppers.
