A Calgary mother is preparing for her baby boy's first Christmas without his father after a crash took his life at the end of October.

Reggie Abdalla Ukilo drove his car into a pole on Deerfoot Trail and Anderson Road on Sunday, October 26, 2014.

The car caught on fire and the 28-year-old died at the scene.

Ukilo's partner, Kristine Pederson, is doing her best to distract herself during the holidays but is having a very tough time coping.

She quit her hospital job to have her son Kendrick and her husband was working as a cleaner and in a warehouse to make ends meet at the time of his death.

"And he was moving boxes that day and then he had two jobs that day to go to, so he was tired. I knew he was tired, we knew he was tired,” said Pederson.

Pederson is living with friends right now but they are also expecting a baby so it is becoming a bit crowded.

She will be moving into her own place at the end of the month but could use a hand up to make things a little easier.

Family and friends have created a fundraising campaign to help raise money for Kristine and Kendrick.
