A 68-year-old man succumbed to his injuries following Thursday’s collision on the Trans-Canada Highway, in a town east of Calgary.

The crash occurred shortly after 7:00 p.m. on the east edge of Chestermere.

According to RCMP, the man was travelling northbound on RR 281, near Chestermere Lake, when he attempted to cross the highway. The driver of an eastbound vehicle was unable to avoid colliding with the man’s vehicle and collided with the driver’s side.

EMS, RCMP members and firefighters responded to the crash scene, but the 68-year-old man did not survive. The identity of the deceased has not been released but RCMP confirm he was a resident of Calgary.

The occupants of the second vehicle were not seriously injured in the crash.

An RCMP investigation into the crash is underway. Alcohol and speed are not considered factors in the collision and charges are not expected.
