Three adults are dead following a Saturday morning house fire on the Siksika First Nation, east of Calgary.

According to the Gleichen RCMP detachment, at approximately 7:00 a.m., officers responded to the residence to assist members of the Siksika Nation and Cluny fire departments as they battled a working fire.

Inside the home, the bodies of three people were located. RCMP members confirm two 28-year-old men and a 25-year-old woman perished inside the home but the identities of the deceased have not been released.

Fire investigators believe the three victims were the only people in the home during the fire.

Siksika Fire Chief Tom Littlechild says the home was not equpped with working smoke alarms. Littlechild say the fire destroyed the kitchen and living room areas of the home. The bodies were located in the bedrooms of the home.

The bodies have been transported to Calgary where the Medical Examiner is scheduled to conduct autopsies early next week. Officials are in the process of notifying the next of kin of the the victims.

The cause of the fire is under investigation but a preliminary examination revealed no indication of suspicious activity.

Littlechild says the deadly blaze is a tragic reminder of the importance of smoke detectors.
