Fire investigators are trying to determine the cause of a fire at the Belmont Diner on Thursday night that forced a large area to be evacuated.
The fire broke out at about 7 p.m. in the restaurant located along 33 Ave. near 20 St. S.W.
When crews got there, they found smoke pouring out of the establishment and decided they needed to get people in the area to safety.
“[We] immediately started to evacuated adjacent businesses – in total, we probably evacuated about 130 people from this block,” said CFD Battalion Chief Allan Ball.
No one was injured in the fire.
Neighbouring businesses will be able to reopen for Friday.
There is no information on the extent of damage to the Belmont Diner or when it is expected to reopen.
The investigation into the fire is continuing.
