Calgary fire crews were called to blaze that broke out in a townhouse in Huntington Hills on Thursday morning.

Crews were called out to a fire in the1000 block of 72 Avenue N.W. at about 6:00 a.m. and called in a second alarm as soon as they arrived.

Officials say the fire was contained to one unit in a row of townhouses in the complex.

"It looks like it's confined to one suite for now; there's significant damage to that suite," says CFD Battalion Chief John Cherweniuk. "It will be a while before anyone can re-occupy that one. But it looks like the surrounding suites are okay. Right now, crews are checking for any smoke extension and making sure the quality of air is good."

Residents in the area were told to leave their homes and were housed in transit buses at the scene.

Officials say a man in his 20s was taken to hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.

There is no word on the cause.
