Two Alberta men are facing arson charges after several grass fires were ignited from fireworks that were discharged from a vehicle along Highway 22.

Fire crews were called out to five fires that were burning on the west side of Highway 22 south of Longview, Alberta at about 12:00 p.m. on Thursday.

The fires closed part of the highway for several hours and stretched from 594 Avenue all the way to Chain Lakes.

The MD of Foothills Fire Department enlisted the resources of every fire department in the area and was able to get the upper hand on the fires by about 4:00 p.m.

RCMP took three suspects into custody in the Crowsnest Pass area.

“Three suspects taken into custody, believed to have set these fires by lighting fireworks out of a vehicle,” said Corporal Tiffany McGregor, Turner Valley RCMP. “Out of a moving vehicle into the field.”

Dale Christopher Aldrich, 21, and Marc Pierre Boulanger, 24, of Sundre, have each been charged with four counts of arson.

Both have already appeared before a Justice of the Peace and bail was set at $5,000.

They are scheduled to appear in Turner Valley Provincial Court on Tuesday, June 3rd, 2014.
