The NHL has suspended Calgary Flames’ defenceman Dennis Wideman for coming into contact with a linesman during Wednesday night’s game at the Saddledome.

Wideman was hit by Nashville forward Miikka Salomaki earlier in the shift and was returning to the Calgary bench when he slammed into veteran linesman, Don Henderson, knocking him to the ice.

Post-game, Wideman said that he was disoriented and didn’t see Henderson and that the contact was “completely unintentional’.

Henderson was taken to hospital for evaluation and released.

A disciplinary hearing is expected to be held next week to determine if further action is warranted.
