The Calgary Flames are heading back to the Saddledome for Game 6 of the first round of the NHL Playoffs after they were defeated by the Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Arena on Thursday night.

The Flames arrived in Vancouver up 3 games to 1 and were eager to put a wrap on the series.

David Jones scored for the Flames off the post at 2:40 of the first period and put his team ahead 1-0. It was his second goal of the series.

The best chance the Canucks had in the first came from Jannik Hansen who hit the post behind Jonas Hiller just after the mid-point in the period.

Hiller shut down Radim Vrbata on the Canucks powerplay late in the period, and pushed aside 17 shots in the first to keep the Flames ahead by 1 after 20 minutes.

The physical play continued in the second and the Canucks had several good scoring chances but the Flames continued to collapse back into their zone and Hiller stayed sharp in the net.

The Flames also had a few opportunities to capitalize on turnovers but Miller was equally up to the task and was able to keep the puck out.

Nick Bonino netted his first goal of the series at 13:31 of the second with a pass from Vrbata, finally beating Hiller, and it was 1-1.

Shots on goal in the second mirrored the first, 17-8, and Hiller made some great saves to deflect the pressure from the Canucks and keep the game tied.

Daniel Sedin put the Canucks in the lead, 2-1, less than two minutes into the third period, with assistance from Dan Hamhuis and brother Henrik.

Henrik took a hooking penalty late in the third but the Canucks were able to contain the pressure from the Flames on the powerplay and keep the lead.

Hiller was pulled in the final minutes of the game and the Flames called a timeout with 27 seconds left to try and even the score but they were unsuccessful.

Shots on goal totalled 21-43 and the Flames lead the series 3 games to 2.

Game 6 comes back to the Sea of Red and the Scotiabank Saddledome on Saturday night.

The last time the Flames reached Round Two of the Stanley Cup Playoffs was in 2004 when they also beat the Canucks in the opening round.
