The Calgary Flames were hoping to even up the series in Anaheim on Sunday night but just couldn’t contain the Ducks’ offence losing by a score of 3 – 0.

Karri Ramo got his first playoff start for the Flames and played a sensational game keeping the Ducks to two during regular play, turning aside 31 of 33 shots.

The Ducks’ Frederik Andersen was even better, making 30 saves on the night to earn the shutout.

Matt Beleskey opened up the scoring for the Ducks at 7:27 of the first to make it 1-0.

The Flames were able to hold the Ducks off in the second period and had a chance to capitalize on a couple of turnovers but were stopped by Andersen.

Hampus Lindholm dashed Calgary’s hopes to tie the game, scoring with just over eight minutes left in the third to make it 2-0 Ducks.

Nate Thompson added an empty netter in the dying minutes to make the final tally 3-0.

The Flames have lost 21 consecutive games at the Honda Centre since 2006 and know they have to step it up if they hope to return to Orange County and break the trend.

“We’re back in our building and we know what we have to do. We don’t want to get down 0 and 3, said Flames Head Coach Bob Hartley. “Where I feel real good about my team is the way that we finished off that second period and how we played that third period. There are situations right there that we can build on and draw lots of positives.”

Hartley says the Ducks are a challenging team and play at an unbelievable pace.

“We know our crowd is going to be wild tomorrow. It’s going to give us lots of energy and it’s up to us to play,” he said. “We have to fight for our space. It’s playoff hockey, there’s a little bit more interference, there’s a little bit more battles allowed and that’s the way it goes. It’s part of our adjustments that our young group has to learn but we’re learning and we’re going to be ready for game three.”

He says the players are aware that they have to pick up the offence after only scoring once in the two games.

“There’s scoring chances out there, we just have to make sure that a little bit more focus, a little bit more quickness on retrieving pucks and we’re gonna get that red light on,” said Hartley.

“I think we tightened up defensively a good amount there, we still need to help out our goalies a little bit more and I think we played a little bit more in their offensive zone but we need to find the net obviously, we’ve only managed to put one puck in the net in two games so we definitely need to find some more offence,” said Johnny Gaudreau.

“We’ve just got to come out and play like we did in the third period last game and we’ll see what happens, He’s been playing tremendously, their goalie, so we’ve got  to do a good job getting to the net and try and find one, get some by him,“ said David Jones.

“I don’t think that we’ve showed, exactly, our best effort in the physical aspect so I think we’ve gotten away a little bit from playing Flames hockey with our speed and using our bodies and we definitely have to get back to that for the rest of the series,” said Sam Bennett.

Anaheim now leads the second round 2-0 and the series will now shift to the Saddledome for Game 3 on Tuesday night.
