Remembrance Day is approaching and a Calgary business is doing its part to help send food and a few dollars to the city’s veterans.

For the 7th year in a row, Crown Surplus in Inglewood is collecting for the Veteran’s Food Bank through The Canadian Legacy Project.

The Veterans and Seniors Food Drive is on from November 1 to 15th and organizers hope to fill the warehouse with food to get the city’s more vulnerable citizens through the winter.

Crown Surplus in Inglewood is accepting donations and the army surplus store is a perfect fit for the charity.

Staff at the store say they are amazed that people are already dropping off food and money and are not waiting for the official kick off to the event.

“Most of them are surprised, I think still, that the veterans are doing without. Not having enough food on the shelves and anything that they can do to help, they do, even with this year with everything that’s happened because of the flood, you know, the senior citizens and the new vets and the old vets do need help,” said John Cumming, Owner Crown Surplus .

In past years, the group has delivered more than 50 big hampers for veterans along with money.

Last year, The Canadian Legacy Project raised more than $60,000 in cash donations and filled two warehouses with food.

Food and cash donations can be dropped off at Crown Surplus at 1005 11th Street S.E.
