The makers of the cone with the signature swirl are celebrating their 75th anniversary and gave away free cones to Canadians on Monday.

Dairy Queen Canada kicked off the celebration by giving customers a free small vanilla soft-serve cone.

"This is all about connecting with our fans and not just about telling them, but showing them how much we appreciate their loyalty. After all, our fans have been supporting us for 75 years, so we thought it would be fun to bring the celebration to them," said Candida Ness, Senior Director of Marketing for Dairy Queen Canada. "We think this is a great day for our fans and our system. We can't wait."

The cold weather on Monday didn’t stop Calgarians from getting in on the frozen treat.

“I think it’s pretty much always a good day for ice cream,” said one Calgary customer. “It’s perfectly fitting because it’s delicious.”

“I guess warm out would be nice but it’s still busy, like you can tell, ice cream’s good any day,” said another.

DQ Canada is also asking people to donate to the Children's Miracle Network on Free Cone Day.

The children’s charity helps save and improve the lives of kids at 170 children's hospitals across the U.S. and Canada.

Dairy Queen has raised more than $100 million for Children's Miracle Network member hospitals in local communities over the last 30 years.
