Tragedy struck for a Calgary couple while they were on their honeymoon in South America and now family and friends are trying to raise money to bring them home.

Peter Ingram and Lihsuan Law were married just two weeks ago and travelled to Colombia for their honeymoon.

They were there for a week when Lihsuan was hospitalized with a massive intraventricular brain hemorrhage.

She has had surgery and is currently in a medically induced coma in the intensive care unit.

Lihsuan’s condition has stabilized and she is facing some serious challenges so her family wants to bring her back to Canada as soon as possible to get care.

The couple does have travel insurance but the Medevac flight to bring her home is pricey and will likely top $100,000.

Family and friends have started a campaign to raise money for the couple’s expenses and have set a goal of $164,000.

“We're all incredibly, incredibly worried and just want her to come home so that she can be with friends and family around her and a support group so we can help Pete too because it’s just so sad and tragic, we just want them home and close to home,” said friend, Stephanie Orr.

So far they have raised just over $77,000.
