Friends of Don and Roxanne Carlson have put up a $25,000 reward for any information that leads investigators to an arrest and conviction in the double homicide.

Police were called to the couple’s Lake Bonavista home on February 15, 2014 at about 1:00 p.m. for reports of a carbon monoxide leak.

Don Carlson, 59, and Roxanne Carlson, 56, were found dead inside the residence.

Police ruled out carbon monoxide in their deaths but have not released the cause.

“Because of the sensitivity of the investigation and because we have no motive, we’re staying away from releasing any of that type of information,” said Inspector Steve Barlow of the CPS Major Crimes Section.

The Homicide Unit took over the investigation and police say they have established a team of investigators to comb through the overwhelming amount of evidence.

Police believe an unknown person or group of people gained access to the home and murdered the couple that morning but say a motive is still unclear.

“To state that it is random, would be wrong at this time, we continue to come to the public because we’re looking for the answers, and I think it would be wrong to say it was random at this point,” said Barlow.

They are looking to speak to anyone who may have seen suspicious activity, people or vehicles around the time of the incident.

Friends of the couple are now offering a $25,000 reward for information on the murders and the Calgary Police Commission will handle the deatails of its disbursement.

Robert Carlson, the brother of Don Carlson, read a statement on behalf of the family and the couple’s children Graig, Laura and Danielle on Thursday morning.

“The death of any family member is a great loss but to lose both parents in such a senseless manner is tragic. Our family is devastated by the loss of two such special people, there’s nothing that can prepare you for something like this,” said Robert Carlson.

Anyone who may have information about this case is asked to contact the Calgary Police Service by email at homicidetips@calgarypolice.ca or by telephone (403) 428-8877 and an investigator will contact you.

“There are many, many times that people will not have an understanding of what will tip an investigation over to leading us in a certain direction and any type of tip, as odd as it may seem, we are asking them to come forward with that,” said Barlow.

The reward will expire on Tuesday, June 30, 2015.

The $25,000 reward is offered independently of Crime Stoppers. However, those who wish to remain anonymous may submit a tip to Crime Stoppers. Any tips that that lead to an arrest are eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000.
