The annual Gas & Oil Expo kicked off Tuesday on the Stampede Grounds with more than 500 companies hosting exhibits and more than 20,000 visitors expected.

Exhibitors from all over North America and various parts of the world are showing off their newest equipment with the majority of the items on display having already passed field tests and are ready to use in production.

While all of the big equipment is outdoors, the BMO Centre is full of more displays.

Business has picked up dramatically for many exhibitors here but they still make the effort to make an appearance at the Calgary show to meet prospective buyers and see what the competition is up to.

Organizers of this year's event say people are coming from all over the world for this year's expo.

“This event was always intended to be a regional North American focused event,” says Wes Scott of DMG Events, the show producer.  “What we're finding now is there are registrations from 60 countries here, so this is truly becoming a global event.”

“It would be in the top ten for size of oil and gas shows around the world."

The show runs through Thursday evening.
