Calgarians will line the streets of a northwest neighbourhood this weekend to cheer on cyclists in the Tour de Bowness.

Monday morning at 9am marks the 14th running of the popular road race. The Tour de Bowness features three stages but the final leg is a high speed road race through the centre of the community.  

The criterium course is 960 metres long with 7 turns with a long straightaway for a fast finish. The route requires several road closures in Bowness which will be in effect on Monday from 5:30am to 4:30pm.

Bowness Road will be closed between 62 Street N.W. and 66 Street N.W.

  • 63 Street N.W. will be closed between Bowness Road and Bowwood Drive N.W.
  • 64 Street N.W. will be closed between Bowness Road and Bowwood Drive N.W.
  • 65 Street N.W. will be closed between Bowness Road and Bowwood Drive N.W.
  • 66 Street N.W. will be closed between Bowness Road and Bowwood Drive N.W.
  • 36 Avenue N.W. will be closed between Bow Anne Road and Bowwood Drive N.W.
  • Bow Anne Road will be closed between 36 Avenue N.W. and 66 Street N.W.

The Tour de Bowness begins Saturday morning at 9am with the road race.  The 22 kilometre long route begins and ends on Hose Creek Road, just outside the Town of Cochrane. All cyclists will stage at Weedon Pioneer Hall.

The Hill Climb takes place at Canada Olympic Park at 5:45pm Sunday afternoon. Cyclists will be conquering a 1.25 kilometre long steep 120 metre ascent.
