A fun family outing nearly turned to tragedy after a six-year-old girl almost drowned and had to be revived at Sikome Lake on Saturday.

Stacey Runningrabbit was with her children at the popular swimming spot and took her eyes off of her daughter for just a minute to prepare a picnic.

The next thing she knew, there was a commotion and a man was pulling her oldest daughter, Nika, out of the lake.

The Good Samaritan performed CPR on the little girl but Stacey and her daughter were rushed to hospital before she could thank him.

“I have four kids and one gone, it wouldn't be the same without her so I’m just thanking god everyday that she's still here. I pray for the guy that saved her life. I know he's traumatized too,” said Runningrabbit.

Nika is doing well and her family says there are no signs of trauma.
