The Alberta government has announced that they will be contributing funding to help residents, business owners, agricultural producers, and municipalities affected by flooding earlier this year.

Between June 16 and 23, many areas of Southern Alberta experienced intense rainfall that led to significant flooding.

As a result, the Alberta government is committing up to $30.7M to help those affected recover uninsurable property damage loss and other expenses.

The funding will be used to restore property back to pre-disaster, functional condition.

The application process begins on November 3 with the government working with municipalities to organize information sessions and set up registration centres to aid residents during the application process.

The following communities are eligible for funding:

  • City of Lethbridge
  • Town of Cardston
  • Town of Claresholm
  • Town of Coaldale
  • Town of Coalhurst
  • Town of Fort McLeod
  • Town of Granum
  • Town of Magrath
  • Town of Nanton
  • Town of Pincher Creek
  • Municipality of Crowsnest Pass
  • MD of Pincher Creek No. 9
  • MD of Ranchland No. 66
  • MD Willow Creek, No. 26
  • Lethbridge County
  • Blood Indian Reserve No. 148
  • The lands of the Piikani First Nation

Also included in the disaster recovery program are emergency operations costs incurred by the City of Medicine Hat and the Town of High River.

Officials say that a separate DRP has already been approved for the Municipal District of Taber in the amount of $700,000.
