An employee at a Calgary dog grooming business is under fire after a video surfaced that appeared to show the worker striking the pooch she was working on.

The groomer was recorded on a Smartphone by another employee at the Fur Kids Daycare and Grooming last Wednesday.

The video shows what looks like the groomer striking the dog she’s working on several times.

Trina Reil was working as an apprentice groomer at the shop and says this wasn't the first time she witnessed this sort of behavior from this groomer.

She says this incident, was the last straw and it bothered her so much she quit her job and sent a copy of the video to the humane society so they could launch an investigation.

“All I wanted to do was leave because I didn’t want to have to see that every day and my family was super supportive and said you've got to stay and get video of it so you can do something about it and you can help the dogs. So I stayed and got some video of it and yea that's my main concern is helping the dog, “said Riel.

CTV spoke with the owner’s of the dog salon and they say what happened was wrong, that the hitting was inappropriate and won't happen again.

"We believe this was a one time incident because we have never had any facts or data relayed to us otherwise. We respect, or believe that it should never of happened but mistakes happen right? And there's times we all may do something we are not the proudest of," said Sonja Miles from Fur Kids Daycare and Grooming.

Miles says they were blindsided by the video which was posted on the Internet before they were told anything had taken place.

Miles says that the groomer has been spoken with and they feel the incident will not happen again.

The groomer is still with the company

The Humane Society confirms it has seen the video and has launched an investigation.

The society says it will turn the video over once its investigation is complete to The Crown and it will decide if charges should be laid.
