GUJARATI Cultural Festival promises a unique glimpse into vibrant yet traditional culture of India.
The Gujarati Cultural Festival 2012 (GCF) is a weekend of events showcasing the dance, music, food, sports, and arts of the State of Gujarat, India. This unique family-friendly event brings together Vancouver, Edmonton, and Calgary in a competitive, high-energy setting that will dazzle both participants and audiences.
A tradition that began in Calgary in 1994, GCF is the only festival of its kind in Western Canada. The Raas Garba (Traditional Gujarati Dance) Competition involves groups of dancers in colourful, traditional costumes dancing energetically to folk music from India. The Gujarati Cultural Exhibition is a FREE event that features cricket, traditional dance workshops, yoga, delicious food, a silent auction, Rangoli (art displays), and much more for anyone to enjoy.
GCF 2012 is hosted by the Gujarati Mandal of Calgary, a non-profit organization. The schedule of the events is as follows:
