Staff at Bison Transport received a surprise while unloading a recent shipment as a three year old stray Russian Blue accompanied the load from Ontario.

The trailer arrived in Calgary in early January following a three day run from Toronto. Employees discovered the feline amongst the freight and successfully coaxed him out of hiding using food and water.

“We’re all animal lovers so what we decided to do was provide a bed for the cat, a litter box, food and water every day until I was able to organize a home for it,” said Brett Kennedy, a Bison Transport employee.

Warehouse staff cared for 'Dirty Blue' for several weeks before contacting MEOW Foundation.

“It was great having the pet on site, we even talked about potentially making it permanent, but that’s just not safe for the cat,” explained Kennedy citing the dangers of forklifts and moving pallets.

MEOW (Make Each One Wanted) Foundation chose to rename the cat Gulliver. Sandra Henry, shelter manager, says Gulliver arrived in great condition and exhibited warmth from the get go.

"Immediately, he was friendly and kind and gentle," said Henry. "Everything is healthy about this boy."

Guliver will be available for adoption through the organization’s adoption centre once he is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.

A reunion may be in the cards, as Kennedy and his wife have expressed their interest in adopting the cat.
