RCMP are investigating reports of overnight mischief at a controversial zoo near Three Hills, Alberta, which left the owners scrambling to return animals to their pens.

According to officials with the GuZoo Animal Farm, some time late Saturday evening or early Sunday morning, more than eleven holes were cut in fences allowing buffalo, donkeys, barbado sheep, coyotes, ostriches, and sika deer to escape.  The perimeter fence of the GuZoo was not damaged and employees have safely returned most of the animals to their enclosures.

The vandals also removed signs along the highway which directed visitors to the GuZoo.

GuZoo members believe animal activists are responsible for the damage, but according to the RCMP, there is no concrete evidence to suggest any of GuZoo’s vocal opponents were involved.

Anyone with information about the damage to the GuZoo’s fences is asked to contact the RCMP Three Hills detachment (403) 443-5538.
