Business students at the University of Calgary received a positive escape from the ongoing pressures of course loads and midterm exams on Monday.

On Monday, the hallways of the school were transformed into a makeshift carnival with stilt-walkers, face painting, carnival games, mini-golf, magicians, food,  a performance by busker Dan the One Man Band, and an appearance by astronaut Bob Thirsk

“We’re turning upside-down the idea of Blue Monday, that this is a sad period of time, and it’s a tough period for students because they’re in their second term and coming in to midterms,” Jim Dewald, dean of the Haskayne School of Business

Dewald adds physical and mental health should remain a priority for students during high pressure periods.

“Let’s make sure that you have balance in your life and there’s happiness around you and that you’re working on being a whole person.”

The inaugural Happiness Day was deemed a success and organizers plan to continue the event in years to come.
