An extensive and popular Halloween display in southeast Calgary has been approved by the city after a neighbour dispute nearly sent it to the grave.

Chrissy Oliver has been hosting a ‘haunted house’ display at her home in Chaparral for the past seven years.

She’s never gotten any complaints until this year, when someone called bylaw about the display, calling it a ‘safety hazard’ and an ‘eyesore’.

Bylaw initially told Oliver that the display would have to go, but officers now say the decorations can stay as is.

Oliver credits the whole community with coming to their aid and saving their work.

“When we posted last night what was going on and everything, the community and city have been behind us 100 percent. They said they would pitch in if we went forward with it,” she said. “We have friends in the U.S. that were willing to pitch in just for us to stay open and do what we do.”

The display was scheduled to be open on Thursday night, but the situation put Oliver behind schedule a bit.

It will be ready for the weekend and will be open all the way through until Halloween night.

Visitors are asked to bring food donations for the Veteran’s Food Bank.
