Residents living in southeastern Calgary need to be aware of a major disruption that could affect their travel plans on Friday.

Deerfoot Trail at Highway 22X will be completely closed for brief periods of time beginning at 10 a.m. and ending at 3 p.m.

They’ll last about five minutes in duration.

This is to allow for Enmax to complete a new substation that will supply power to Auburn Bay, Cranston, and other rapidly expanding southeast communities.

The power company has employed the use of a helicopter to lift ropes and cables across the highway to help them complete substation 54.

The station will also help meet the electricity needs of the new South Health Campus.
