Members of the Didsbury RCMP detachment are investigating an afternoon crash on Highway 2A, between Didsbury and Carstairs, that sent three people to hospital including two women in potentially life threatening condition.

At approximately 3:30 p.m., emergency crews responded to the intersection Highway 2A and Township Road 310 after a pick-up truck and a car collided.

RCMP say the driver of an eastbound pickup truck failed to stop at the intersection and travelled into the path of the oncoming northbound car.

The two occupants of the car, a 29-year-old woman and a 24-year-old woman, suffered serious internal injuries and were airlifted by STARS Air Ambulance to the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary.

The driver of the truck suffered serious soft-tissue injuries and was transported to the Foothills Hospital by ground ambulance in non-life threatening condition.

RCMP believe alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash and  the driver of the pickup truck will likely face charges.

The intersection was closed for several hours following the collision.
