It was an emotional morning in a Calgary courtroom as the family of a young man slain in a apparent drunk driving crash faced the driver accused in the crime.

Travis Joe Meissinger was killed last January in a crash on Dover Ridge Dr. S.E.

Chris Fitzsimons, Meissinger's teammate and friend, was driving when he lost control and crash into several parked cars along the street.

Meissinger was declared dead at the scene.

He was part of a tightly knit family and his mother told CTV that he was a great son and helped out in the family business whenever he could.

Fitzsimons faces impaired driving charges causing death and dangerous driving causing death.

A judge will take two days to determine whether or not there is enough evidence to send the matter to trial.
