Calgary’s largest shopping mall is preparing for an onslaught of customers looking to make their final holiday purchases during the last weekend before Christmas.

For mall employees, it's all hand on deck for the final three shopping days before December 25.

The mall has brought in dozens of extra security staff and members of the Calgary Fire Department, to help customers secure a coveted parking spot.

In the mall’s heated north parkade, firefighters are keeping a watch for open spots and helping direct drivers to available spaces.

“They really have a handle on how to navigate around here,” says Stacie Woolford, Chinook Centre representative.  “We do have parking management throughout the property to encourage parking in all of the usually underutilized spots so we’re really getting the maximum use out of every stall.

The mall expects between 60,000 and 70,000 people to pass through their doors on Saturday, a number that's nearly three times more than the amount of shoppers on a regular day.

To make room, mall workers are parking off site and taking shuttle buses to the mall, leaving the best spots for customers.
