Hundreds of people camped out overnight at Calgary's two Apple stores as the iPhone 5 went on sale on Friday morning.
Diehard fans started lining up outside of Apple stores at Chinook Centre and Market Mall Thursday night in the hopes of being one of the first to own the new model.
Apple says demand has far exceeded their expectations and about two million units were ordered online the very day they became available.
The new, lighter iPhone boasts a faster processor and a larger screen.
Canadian stores are selling three models of the phone based on its hard drive capacity: the 16GB version sells for $699, the 32GB sells for $799, and the top-of-the-line 64GB version sells for $899.
The newest version of the phone is already being advertised for resale online in the city for prices as high as $1,500 for the 64GB version.
Apple isn't perfect however and officials say they are working on improving Apple's mapping software after dozens of complaints were made by customers worldwide. They are complaining that the new maps are filled with inaccuracies such as misplaced towns and cities and incorrect landmarks.
Apple's mapping application was released earlier this week, replacing Google Maps.
The new phone is called the iPhone 5 but it is actually the sixth model of Apple's popular smartphone, the first was released in 2007.
