Albertans celebrated Heritage Day at events across the province on Monday and for Calgary’s Heritage Park it is the second busiest day of the year.

Visitors walked the wooden sidewalks at Heritage Park and took in the hundreds of exhibits and artifacts that depict the settlement of Western Canada.

Jeff Hodgson is the Duty Manager for Heritage Day at the park and says it is the second busiest day of the year next to Canada Day.

“We always get good crowds when the weather is nice for Heritage Day and today, and this year being our 50th anniversary, we’ve got a lot of extra special programming going on this year,” said Hodgson.

Park officials also brought in roving musicians and a variety of other performers for the special day.

“One of our mandates here at Heritage Park is to connect people with the settlement of Western Canada and if that’s your own personal heritage, then there’s an opportunity to reconnect with that and to explore and learn, and if that’s not part of your heritage, it’s a chance to come here and learn more about it,” said Hodgson.

Holly Cole is headlining a special 50th Anniversary concert at the park at 7:00 p.m. with Sarah Slean & the Stellas rounding out the show.
