Authorities south of the border have arrested a man in connection with an exploitation case where a Red Deer mother is alleged to have sexually abused her four-year-old son.

Peter Cash, 39, was arrested by police in Boise and charged with nine counts of sexual exploitation of a child.

Cash has child pornography possession charges in Missouri as well.

Authorities, when they conducted a search of his home, seized a number of illegal photos from his computer, connecting them to the woman in Red Deer who was arrested on Wednesday.

Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams arrested the 43-year-old woman and removed her young son from the home.

The victim has been put into the care of other family members, but that doesn’t mean the police will ignore his situation.

“A crime of this heinous nature, when can’t ignore the fact that there could be some consequences as the child grows older and that’s why it’s important that full support is given to him,” said Dave Dubnyk with ALERT’s Internet Child Exploitation Unit.

The mother is out on bail, on the condition that she has no contact with her son.

She is charged with:

  • Sexual assault
  • Sexual exploitation
  • Making child pornography
  • Distributing child pornography
  • Possessing child pornography
  • Accessing child pornography

“It is far more rare to have a female offender on their child, it’s not the first time I’ve seen it, however, it is certainly more rare than the alternative of having a male offender,” said Dubnyk.

She cannot be identified on the grounds that she is the biological mother of the victim.

The woman runs a daycare, but police don’t believe that any of the children at the daycare were abused.

She is expected in court on July 16, 2016.
