The Cochrane RCMP detachment is investigating a late night crash on Highway 1A that sent three people to hospital.

At approximately 11:00 p.m., officers responded to allocation approximately two kilometres west of the dam at Ghost Lake after an SUV struck several horses. The collision was witnessed by CPS members in the HAWCS helicopter.

EMS crews from Cochrane and Nakoda attended the scene and transported three patients to the Foothills Hospital including:

  • A male who had been seated in the front passenger seat, believed to be in his late twenties, in serious but stable and non-life threatening condition
  • A female passenger who had been in the backseat, believed to be in her mid-thirties, in stable condition
  • The female driver, age undisclosed, in stable condition

A section of Highway 1A was closed for several hours following the crash. The condition of the horses has not been confirmed.

RCMP suspect alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash.
