A 43-year-old worker injured at Lakeside Packers in Brooks has died of his injuries in a Calgary hospital.

Chris Harper worked at the plant for more than 20 years and JBS says he was a rendering supervisor.

Harper was injured on August 18 after he was tasked with looking into a blocked pipe at the plant.

“He got blown off as soon as he opened up the pipe and there was electric wires hanging down. I was told and steam blew him right off with electric and then he got electrocuted and he blew right off the second storey,” said Harper’s son Matheu.

Harper was rushed to Foothills Hospital in Calgary where he had surgery for steam burns.

He died of his injuries early Monday morning.
