A Calgary boy has been helping to feed the hungry for almost half his life and is the CTV Calgary Inspiring Albertan.

Kieran Bovingdon, 10, is a compassionate young man whose life took on new meaning after a family trip to drop donations at the Mustard Seed.

Kieran was just six at the time and the experience left a lasting impression on him.

"He was asking, well how do they eat? Where do they get their food from? And it just, for weeks on end it just kept going and going and going and got, the idea got bigger and bigger," said Terra Bovingdon, Kieran's mom.

"The idea wouldn't go away so mommy told me, why don't we just, why don't we just have a bunch of cookies, invite some friends over and tell them to bring food," said Kieran.

That gathering was the start of what has become known as Kieran's Kolossal Food Drive.

The drive, now in its fifth year, is still held at the family home in northwest Calgary.

This year's initiative was the most successful yet and 1660 kilograms of food was collected and stacked in the Bovingdon home.

"We always worry that, well my parents do, that we're gonna be in downstairs, that the floor will crack," said Kieran.

Kathryn Sim of the Calgary Food Bank says it's wonderful to see young people get involved.

"From my math, the food that Kieran collected will feed about 25 families of three. That's a lot of people for one kid to have collected food for. We are quite amazed by him," said Sim.

Kieran's Kolossal Food Drive has generated more than 4100 kilograms or 9000 pounds of food donations.

Kiernan is not stopping there and has even bigger dreams for the future.

"Maybe if I'm, like, a hockey player once I'll be a professional we'll do one within the team kind of thing," said Kieran.

For setting a positive example and for showing us all that you're never too young to make a difference, Kieran Bovingdon is our Inspiring Albertan this week.
