Many people in the Calgary area were cleaning up after a wicked storm blew through on Tuesday and are contacting their insurance agents to recover damages.

Winds reached nearly 100 Kilometres per hour in places, knocking out power and toppling trees in and around the city.

This was the second big storm in days and the insurance claims are piling up.

The damage from these recent storms isn't expected to reach the $400 million in claims that the infamous 2010 hailstorm delivered, but experts say the damage to homes, and mostly cars is likely in the millions.

Insurance companies in Calgary say that the phones have been ringing non-stop from customers who want to get their claims started.

Auto body shops are also doing a booming business and are booking appointments months from now for people who come in with hail damage.

Auto technicians say it is better to wait for the experts than to try and make repairs on your own.

“There's stuff on YouTube where they show you dry-ice, all that kinda stuff.  That stuff doesn't really work in this industry.  It doesn't make things perfect, and if you want to get it back to what it's supposed to be, if it's an insurance claim and you have to get it perfect, so we have a bunch of tools where we slowly massage the dents from behind,” said Lokki Kwan from the Dent Clinic.

The Insurance Bureau of Canada says it will be two or three weeks before there is any sort of damage estimate.
