Officials with Parks Canada are warning visitors to Banff National Park of the likelihood of afternoon, evening and early morning closures and delays along Highway 93N as crews attempt to control a 2500 hectare wildfire in Spreading Creek.

Under current conditions, the Icefields Parkway (Highway 93N) will remain open between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m, the time of day when traffic volumes are at their highest.

Visitors can expect to encounter short and long term closures of the highway between the Saskatchewan River Crossing and Waterfowl Campground between the hours of 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m.

The Icefields Parkway is the highway which connects Jasper National Park with the Trans-Canada Highway and the Banff townsite. The highway provides access to the Columbia Icefields.

Visitors are encouraged to visit Alberta 511 for up-to-date information on highway closures.
