CPS members are knocking on doors following Thursday morning's discovery of a body on a street in a southeast neighbourhood.

Shortly after 9:30 a.m., police were called to the 0-100 block of Auburn Sound Circle S.E. for reports of gunshots. Officers located the body of a man in his mid-forties in the road.

According to sources close to the investigation, the victim appeared to have suffered a stab wound to his head and he had been shot.

Police do not believe the attack was random but have yet to determine a motive. It is not known if the victim lived in the area.

The CPS Homicide Unit is leading the investigation. Officers canvassed the neighbourhood in an attempt to locate possible witnesses and a grid search was conducted for bullet fragments and bullet holes.

Following the sound of gunshots, two men in a van were seen leaving the area. A description of the van has not been released.

Police have not identified a suspect, or suspects, in connection to the attack.

While police believe the incident was not random, officials the time and the location of the attack is disconcerting.

"Whenever we have gunplay in the city, in the early morning, when we've got residents surrounding, we've got firearms being used, that's always concerning," said CPS Duty Inspector Michael Watterston.

Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact police at 403-266-1234 or Crime Stoppers anonymously using any of the following methods.

An autopsy has yet to be scheduled.
