A Calgary judge has found Kristopher Guenther guilty of first degree murder in connection with the death of his estranged girlfriend Lacey Jones-McKnight.

The judge made the announcment on Friday morning, saying he doubted Guenther's account of the events that led up to Jones-McKnight's death in October 2012.

Her body was found inside Guenther's vehicle by police, who were attending the scene after he was seen attempting suicide at Country Hill Boulevard.

The case wrapped up on Monday, with Guenther admitting that he killed Jones-McKnight accidentally when he was trying to restrain her during a fight.

The Crown argued that Guenther intentionally killed her. The evidence included tape and rope that was found in Guenther’s car and the prosecution says he told a woman he was seeing that he bound and gagged Jones-McKnight’s and put a bag over her head and then choked her to death.

Guenther claimed the tape and rope that was found was used by the couple for bondage.

There is no information on his sentencing hearing at this point.
