A teenage girl has been found guilty of second degree murder in the stabbing death of Brett Wiese in January 2013.

A judge issued the verdict on Wednesday morning, finding the girl not guilty of first degree murder.

She was also found guilty of aggravated assault and two counts of assault.

She cannot be named because she was 17 at the time of the stabbing.

Police say she was with a group of her friends at a party at a home in the 5100 block of Brisebois Drive N.W. and was told to leave because they were uninvited.

The teen left but soon returned with other friends, armed with knives.

A fight ensued and Wiese, who was also at the party, was stabbed seven times, dying of his injuries in hospital.

A second young man suffered serious injuries that will remain with him for the rest of his life.

The Crown says the teen, who was just five months shy of her 18th birthday, was the instigator of the attack.

They are applying to have her sentenced as an adult. Her next court appearance is in June.

Mitchell Harkes, 20, is also charged in connection to Wiese's death.

His trial is scheduled for September and is expected to last a month.
