Five women and seven men will decide the fate of a Calgary man who is accused in the murder of his 17-year-old stepdaughter.

Bradley Wade Rietze, 47,was arrested in January 2010 and charged with the first-degree murder of Brittney McInnes.

McInnes was reported missing in January 2010 and discovered dead in her bed in the Canyon Meadows home where she lived with Reitze, her mother and 2 siblings.

Rietze had been in McInnes's life for 13 years.

Brittney was a senior at Dr. E.P. Scarlet High School and was planning on becoming a veterinarian.

The young woman loved Superman and a scholarship fund in her name was launched in November 2010.

The SuperBritt Scholarship Fund was established through the Children's Legacy Foundation and will help kids from low income families to pursue an education in music and the arts. The money will be used for living expenses, tuition, and books.

Opening statements in the trial will begin on Monday.
