Agents with the Canada Border Services Agency have charged a Kansas man in connection with attempting to smuggle a weapon into Canada.

On February 10, Donald Edward Lee, 44, attempted to enter Canada at the Coutts border crossing.

He was referred to a secondary examination, at which point investigators found a .45 calibre handgun inside his truck.

Lee is facing two charges under the Customs Act and two charges under the Criminal Code.

He was released on a recognizance and is expected to appear in Lethbridge Provincial Court on March 27.

The CBSA says this is the second gun seizure at Coutts in 2015. They seized 39 guns at that border crossing in 2014.

All travellers are advised to declare all goods, including firearms and weapons, in their possession when they are crossing the border.
