Wednesday is the last day for the special immunization clinics that were opened after an outbreak of measles surfaced in the Calgary area at the end of April.

Alberta Health Services opened the measles immunization clinics on April 30 to offer the vaccine to Albertans in an effort to prevent spreading the virus.

The clinic at the South Calgary Health Centre at 31 Sunpark Plaza S.E. will be open on May 14 from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Starting on May 20, the vaccine will be available at community health centres in the Calgary zone by booking an appointment.

Appointments will be available at various times and locations, for the following individuals:

  • Infants six months of age to less than 12 months of age
  • Children 12 months of age or older who have not yet received their first dose of measles vaccine
  • Children four years of age and older who have not yet received their second dose of measles vaccine
  • Individuals born in or after 1970 who have not received two doses of measles vaccine
  • Health care workers, regardless of year of birth, who are not immune to measles

**Note: individuals who have already received two doses of measles vaccine, as per the routine immunization schedule, do not require any additional doses of measles vaccine.

Alberta Health Services say more than 11,500 Calgary area residents were immunized against measles from April 30 to May 10, including 90 per cent of the six-month to 11-month-old population.
