The friends and family of a young woman who was killed by an alleged drunk driver early Saturday morning have set up a fund to honour her memory.

Jillian Lavallee, 25, died of injuries she sustained when a speeding Cadillac Escalade ran a red light and slammed into the taxi she was in.

The crash also killed the taxi driver, 46-year-old Amritpal Karbanda.

Organizers of the fundraiser say that Lavallee ‘responsibly took a cab’ when she realized that she could not drive home herself.

The goal is to raise $20,000, with a portion of the money going to support Karbanda’s family and another portion to be donated to MADD Canada.

Police have charged 20-year-old Ali Montoya in connection with the incident.
