The lawyer representing a Lethbridge martial arts instructor accused of sexual battery says his client is shocked by the allegations leveled against him.

Last week, James Lee Mein, 47, was arrested in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in connection with inappropriate actions claimed by a maid at a hotel where Mein was staying.

He was in Tulsa, attending a UFC event with his son Jordan.

Jason Edge, an Oklahoma lawyer representing Mein told CTV Lethbridge that the allegations are false.

“We’re hopeful that the District Attorney will look at the evidence or lack of evidence in the case and decide not to go forward with the charges,” Edge said during a telephone interview. “But if they do, then we’re going to be more than prepared to go forward and fight them.”

The District Attorney’s office in Tulsa says they haven’t yet received information from police and are still deciding on how to progress.

Mein will appear in court in September.
