Lethbridge police are continuing to investigate a serious crash that claimed the life of a teenage girl on Monday.

At about 3:15 p.m., emergency crews were called to the scene of a crash on Westside Drive W. just south of Highway 3.

Police say that a southbound car was rear-ended by a truck and the resulting impact pushed the vehicle into the northbound lanes of the road, where the car was hit by a third vehicle.

Both occupants of the car were transported to hospital, with the 16-year-old driver suffering non-life threatening injuries.

The passenger, a 17-year-old girl, sustained serious life threatening injuries and was flown to a Calgary hospital by STARS for treatment.

The occupants of the trucks were not injured.

Unfortunately, in the early morning hours of July 26, the girl died of her injuries.

Her identity is not being released at this time so that the family has time to contact other relatives about the incident.

Police are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash, but have determined that alcohol was not a factor.

There is no word on charges at this time.

A section of Westside Drive was closed for about five hours for police to investigate the scene.
