The Toronto Blue Jays are in first place in the AL East and some say that success comes from the players and coaching staff but some Calgarians have another theory.

Calgary artist Terry Moore collects other people's junk to build colourful creations to display in his yard.

“I’m one of these guys, if I see something shiny or not, I bring it home,” said Moore.

Moore grew up in southern Ontario and last year when the Blue Jays were in the playoff race he decided to put together a good luck charm to give the team a boost after they went down three games.

Work on Billy the blue jay began and Moore says that as soon as he began the project the team started to win.

Even though the Blue Jays didn’t take the title, Moore hopes Billy will bring them luck again this year.

“I kind of put it on hiatus for the winter and then in the spring, I’ve been working on it ever since to refine it to bring it out. And as soon as I put him up there, we're in number one and we haven't gone back yet,” said Moore. “If you look at the feathers and all the rest, they’re all maple leafs all interlaid so nothing’s welded, nothing’s glued, nothing's wired together. This is something you can do, your kids can do,”

Billy is made from recycled materials and hangs proudly in Moore’s yard along with a number of his other art installations.
