A Calgary man is in hospital after he was attacked with a hammer over a dispute involving a case of beer.

Witnesses say a man was waiting to cross the street at 10 Street and 16 Avenue N.W. when another man, wielding a hammer, approached him.

He demanded the victim to hand over a case of beer he was carrying.

When he refused, the suspect struck him in the head with the hammer and fled the scene.

Emergency crews attending the scene tended to the victim, who suffered minor injuries, and took him to hospital.

Police located the suspect and arrested him a short time later.
