A man is recovering in hospital after he was shot by a Redcliff RCMP officer on Monday.

Police say a man came to the RCMP detachment in the town, west of Medicine Hat, at about 3:30 a.m. on Monday.

The man produced and pointed what appeared to be a firearm at officers when they tried to approach him and he was shot as a result.

The man was taken to hospital where he remains in critical but stable condition.

Police seized a black Smith and Wesson 177-calibre BB gun from the scene.

Bernard Norman, 33, of Redcliff, is charged with possession of a weapon dangerous to the public and Assault on a Peace Officer.
