Police have now charged a Calgary man in connection with a fatal motorcycle crash on Centre Street earlier this year.

At about 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 26, a 2008 Honda CBR600 motorcycle, carrying two men was southbound on Centre Street when it was struck by an eastbound van on Tache Avenue. N.W.

Police say the driver of the cube van advanced onto Centre Street against a stop sign and then turned left to head north.

The motorcycle struck the driver’s side and both men were ejected from the bike which then skidded southbound on its side for about 17 metres.

The cube van fled the scene northbound on Centre Street but police were able to catch up with the driver a short time later.

The driver of the motorcycle, Robert Enstrom, 32, of Calgary, died in hospital four days after the crash.

The 21-year-old male passenger on the motorcycle sustained serious injuries.

The driver of the van, Ryan Shuba, 32, of Calgary, was not injured.

He has been charged with failure to proceed safely.

Shuba will appear in court on September 25.
