Story Update: January 8, 2020
Matin Hamid Ahmet was scheduled to stand trial on Oct. 21, 2019 on charges of pointing a firearm, possession of a prohibited loaded/restricted firearm and criminal negligent use of a firearm but all charges were stayed weeks earlier on Oct. 3, 2019.
Other charges against Ahmet were dismissed in March of 2018.
ORIGINAL STORY
A 21-year-old man has been charged with manslaughter in the death of 17-year-old Ezzulddin Al-Ogaidi whose body was found in a remote area near Morley on Monday.
Matin Hamid Ahmet was arrested by police on Wednesday and charged with manslaughter, careless use of a firearm, pointing a firearm, possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, possession of a firearm without a licence and possession of a weapon obtained by crime.
Police were called to a home on San Diego Way N.E. on Saturday night after an area resident heard what sounded like a gun shot and called 911.
When officers arrived, they found the home empty.
The following day, the investigation led police to a residence in the Dover area where several people were arrested.
Search warrants were conducted on the two homes and on Monday, police found the body of Ezzulddin Al-Ogaidi in an area north of Morley.
On Tuesday, three men were arrested and charged with accessory after the fact to murder:
- Ahmed Abid, 24
- Mohammed Khalil, 28
- Ashraf Jasem Ajil, 23
The three are scheduled to appear in court on Thursday and Ahmet is expected to make an appearance on December 15, 2016.
